Sandbox:
New Service Design

Senior citizens find it difficult to realise their value in their present stage of life due to generational disconnect. It creates a void in their self-esteem and impacts their overall psychosocial well-being.

Sandbox is a service design intervention that creates a safe space to foster intergenerational relationships. The platform creates an experience through activities between retirees and young adults to exchange perspectives and ideas, thus building mutual respect and adding value to each other's lives.

Team & Role

Service designer in a team of 3, for the service design module.

I worked on the ideation of service form, and visualisation of the service in addition to the overall research and need identification.

Objective

The module aimed at introducing the domain of service design, and designing a service for an identified need of a target group. The service was then prototyped in real-time with target participants.

Area of intervention

Recently- retired senior citizens find it difficult to realise their value in their present stage of life due to lack of purpose and additional generational disconnect. It creates a void in their self-esteem and impacts their overall psychosocial well-being.

Timeline

4 weeks (Feb 2022)

Final Outcome

The final service form was tested out with real users from the target group in a fully-designed journey. Based on the feedback of the first prototype, iterations were made and tested to improve the service experience.
